GENDER INEQUALITY REPRESENTED IN ENGLISH TEXTBOOKS: A LITERATURE REVIEW

Ideologies are contested through discourses; thus, textbooks can be a fertile ground for implanting the prevalence of women's marginalization in society, or they also used deconstructing ideology. The present study aims to provide general map how English as foreign language reflects gendered stereotypes. was library research that results previous studies answer questions. Using George's method, chose thirty articles published 2010 - 2021, then critically reviewed. critical reading continued with mapping studies, and their arguments on gender stereotypes included Foreign Language worldwide. review revealed there had been prevalent women reflected depiction less dominant, inferior than men, primarily domestic, generally weak, powerless, voiceless, passive. Such male found Indonesian EFL textbooks. Many admit reflect reality society.
